This standard is to provide correlated technical information applicable to the inspection of gages, special tools, and measuring devices. The principal subjects covered are nomenclature, tolerances and fits,
measuring tools and equipment, gages, and methods of measurement and inspection. Details of gage design are not included.

MIL-STD-120 was released in a consolidated edition with both the main document and the notice 1 included in the text. It was cancelled in 1996 without replacement. People continue to use the standard even though it has been withdrawn, since there are no good superseding documents.
