Automated Engineering Document Preparation System Basic (No Superseding Document)

Scope

1.1 General. This standard prescribes the requirements for the preparation of Military Specification Exceptions (MSEs) and provides a description of the Automated Engineering Document Preparation System (AEDPS).

1.2 Purpose. This military standard provides to the design activity or contractor the necessary information for the preparation of a Specification Requirement Sheet (SRS) which will result in the generation of a (MSE) by automated data processing.

1.3 Organization. This standard is organized around the generic parts listed in Table I. All parts of this standard are identified as MIL-STD-35 followed by a dash and a sequential number. Each dash-numbered part of this standard is applicable to one or more generic parts and furnishes instructions to be used when preparing a request for a MSE.

1.3.1 Dash-numbered parts dated prior to January 1977. Refer to Appendix E for instructions on the use of this standard with dash-numbered parts published prior to January 1977.

1.4 Over-specifying. Requirements and tests not essential for proper identification, operation, or quality assurance should be omitted. Many non-standard items become cost prohibitive through over-specifying. When requirements and tests in the base document meet desired criteria, additional parameters which are not mandatory shall not be used.

1.5 Tailoring. This standard is imposed in full. Tailoring is accomplished by the proper application based on program life cycle and type designation. The application guide in Appendix F may be used in determining the proper application of this standard.

1.5.1 Method of submitting requirements. The SRS is the preferred vehicle for specifying and submitting requirements for the generation of a MSE. However, the contractor may select one of the other methods set forth in paragraph 4.3 of this standard.
