Scope

This standard prescribes instrumentation and procedures required for measurement and analysis of, and maximum acceptable level criteria for, airborne sound generated by shipboard equipment.

In September 2012, this standard was inactivated.  This means that you can still use it when working on replacement parts, but for new design you're directed to use MIL-STD-1474, "Noise Limits."
