Standard Test Method for Measuring Air Performance Characteristics of Vacuum Cleaners
The following bibliographic material is provided to assist you with your purchasing decision:
Scope
1.1 This test method covers procedures for determining air performance characteristics of commercial and household upright, canister, stick, hand-held, utility, and combination-type vacuum cleaners having provisions for attaching a hose and incorporating a series universal motor. This test method can be applied to the carpet cleaning mode of operation.
1.2 These tests and calculations include determination of suction, airflow, air power, maximum air power, and input power under standard operating conditions (see Note 0). The nozzle mounted on plenum testing is an ideal air performance measurement and is not intended to represent the actual air performance during carpet or floor cleaning.
Note 0For more information on air performance characteristics, see Refs
1.3 The foot-pound-inch system of units is used in this standard. The values in parentheses are given for information only.
Significance and Use
The test results allow the comparison of the maximum potential air power available for cleaning tasks when tested under the conditions of this test method. The test results do not indicate the actual air power present during the cleaning process due to the effects of the various tools in use and surfaces being cleaned. During the nozzle on plenum chamber air performance testing, the brushroll is unloaded and this condition is not representative of the brushroll being in contact with carpet or other surfaces being cleaned.
